Just came to the sad realization that 16 new books have entered this house in the past two days. Someone might have a problem.
It took me 2.5 hours to put together the stupid IKEA TV stand. I am too old for this nonsense.
Hey, guess what? I Will Dare is nine years old today: http://bit.ly/3nPmAw I think that’s about 78 in blog years.
Think I may have just survived my first migraine, and it sucked (the migraine not the surviving).
If you’re wondering what an appropriate gift for a 9th blogiversary is, it’s a cassette tape lamp: http://bit.ly/GbUgj
Started & finished I Kill Giants, but I cried through the last 15 or so pages. Damn that was good.
Really wish I had more opportunity to use the word Jingoist
a big box from Instock Trades with four graphic novels in it arrived. Do I want to do any work today? Hell no.
The cuteness of a 5-year-old kid playing Folsom Prison Blues will make your face pucker involuntarily: http://bit.ly/RmU9a
In case you’re wondering, today’s Little House on the Prairie is the one where the kids rally with the mute Tinker to make a bell
Watching a video of Caroline Smith & The Goodnight Sleeps covering Taylor Swift’s Love Story: http://bit.ly/uSiwf
Dear Internet, please don’t send me any e-mail for a few hours. I want to revel in my empty inbox. Yours ‘til Niagara Falls, Jodi
PW has a piece on the Twin Cities Lit Scavenger Hunt to celebrate Publisher anniversaries: http://tinyurl.com/ngttbp (via @TwinCitiesLit)
Read two separate pieces tonight (a short story & an essay) by two different authors. Both mention Billy Joel. Coincedence? I think not.
Kind of pumped to realize that tomorrow is only Tuesday and not, in fact, Wednesday.
I just gotta say, without meaning to be too bitchy, that there really is no need for a writer to use a character’s name 9 times on one page
Experiencing Sonic for the first time, and not letting Jaycie & Max talk about poop
Spent entirely too much time working today, tomorrow I will respond to e-mail.
My horoscope says I’m overwhelmed with projects & should delegate, so someone respond to all my email & clean the ktichen, that’d be great
My psyche’s making up for the neighbors not playing Don’t Fear the Reaper on repeat this summer by listening only to Jackson Browne

I was so busy over staying my welcome at Ericka & Ben’s, I almost missed my midnight deadline. Almost, but not quite. In other news, while at their house I lectured Jaycie & Max on how to get…

Reading Art Spiegelman’s In the Shadow of No Towers and it’s really kicking my ass.
Still too soon →
Before I lost my job in May, I resubscribed to Tin House. It’s my absolute favorite literary journal. Of all the print publications in all the land, I’d like to be published in Tin House more…
Playing iSpy with the Tibbles is a hoot because they always look at the thing they spy right before they say what they’re spying.
The awesomest thing you will read/hear today — 80s sax solos rated. How could Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam get a D? http://bit.ly/cHcgB
Ouch. David foster Wallace story in 10th Anniversary Tin House about depression & suicide.
Y’all should be happy to know that @magersandquinn is now on Twitter. (via @mnreads)
Totally overwhelmed by publisher’s willingness to help out with @mnreads 1st Anniversary Giveaway
Probably not wise to listen to New Yorker piece about whether or not creative writing can be taught while looking at stories for class
Holy cannoli! Amazon is buying Zappos. Two great tastes that taste great together. http://bit.ly/1utal (via @Nylons)
Creepier than those Tom Petty videos from the 80s, the trailer for Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland with Johnny Depp: http://bit.ly/WR9ak
If I land one more gig I’m going to have to stop calling myself unemployed and start calling myself a freelance writer
Here’s the key to productivity for work from homers … never turn on the TV
Holy shit. Got another gig. That’s two today and I never even got out of my pajamas. I win!
When I worked at a gas station, I sold a can of Coke and an ice cream sandwich to Davy Jones of the Monkees #lameclaimtofame
Can’t sleep. Can’t stop singing Matthew Sweet’s Divine Intervention either. Correlation is not causation
Was hugged by @DougCoupland at the Barnes & Noble in the Galleria after he read from Eleanor Rigby #lameclaimtofame
Just admitted to Trip Shakes that I had a real crush on Rick Astley in 8th grade, because I’m a sucker for the flame-haired beauties
Dear @colsonwhitehead, Dag, I’m sorry for doubting you and Sag Harbor, your beautiful book: http://bit.ly/2OKx0w
Saw an old woman smoking in the produce aisle at Cub. Not sure if it was ever okay to smoke in a grocery store.
If I find a man who can discuss Neal Pollack, Steve Almond & Junot Diaz, and why I lumped them together, I may change my marriage policy
I love companies looking for an experienced copywriter and want to pay $10 an hour. Really? I can make more working at SuperAmerica
The perils of being a big mouth →
I’ve been reading Sag Harbor by Colson Whitehead. I’ll probably finish it up tonight. I’ve only got forty or so pages left. About 100 pages ago, I was doubting Whitehead. I…
Thinking I’m gonna owe Colson Whitehead an apology for doubting him
Was starting to get a little nervous that with only 8 minutes left Meet the Press hadn’t talked about Walter Cronkite, but it’s up next
